Bulk is Green Council Kicks-off Retailer Recruitment for

National Bulk Foods Week 2015

Fifth Annual Bulk Foods Celebration Slated for October 11--17

Portland, Ore. – June 16, 2015 – The Bulk is Green Council (BIG), the leading organization dedicated to educating shoppers on the economical and environmental benefits of shopping the bulk aisles, has launched its retailer recruitment for the fifth annual National Bulk Foods Week. The celebration is scheduled for October 11-17 in the bulk aisles of grocery stores and natural food co-ops across the nation. National Bulk Foods Week represents the organization’s highest-profile initiative, and the growing number of participating retailers each year – last year more than 1,400 retailers took part – points to the growing trend of shopping the bulk bins.

“Our annual National Bulk Foods Week celebration keeps growing each year and is a great way to excite shoppers about the benefits of shopping the bulk aisles,” said Bart McKnight, bulk category manager at Trade Fixtures, a founding BIG member. “We’re inviting retailers everywhere to participate in our milestone celebration. The more retailers that we have participate in National Bulk Foods Week, the more opportunities shoppers have to save on healthy foods from the bulk bins, not only during National Bulk Foods Week, but hopefully throughout the whole year.”

During National Bulk Foods Week, each participating retailer will offer special discounts and promotions on select bulk foods as a way to entice shoppers into the bulk aisles and educate them on the easiest way to save money on nutritious food and help reduce packaging and food waste. Participating retailers will receive a complimentary National Bulk Foods Week retailer kit with “Love Bulk” signage, an infographic sign about the benefits of shopping the bulk bins, along with balloons, buttons and other promotional materials to encourage shopping the bulk bins during the dedicatory week this fall.

In addition, all participating stores will be listed on the BIG website and promoted through public relations and social media efforts on Facebook.com/LoveBulk. Participating retailers also can take part in Love Bulk’s Facebook contest, where fans will have the opportunity to tag their favorite bulk foods retailer in the comments for a chance to win a bulk foods starter kit. In addition, the winning retailer will receive a $100 donation to the charity of its choice. Last year’s winner from more than 1,400 participating retailers across the country was Oryana Natural Foods in Traverse City, Michigan, and on the store’s behalf, BIG made a donation to the store’s charity of choice, On the Ground.

Retailers interested in signing up to participate in National Bulk Foods Week 2015 can do so at BulkisGreen.org. Sign up closes on September 7, 2015. Additional information about BIG and National Bulk Foods Week 2015 also can be found at the website.
